I had a great shoot this afternoon with model, Fudge Plaatjies. Undeniably stunning. The idea of today was to just meet Fudge and get a few test shots and see how she is in front of the camera. Well, she’s fantastic in front of the camera. Obviously. Thank you to The Regency Hotel in Douglas, Isle of Man, for letting us use their beautiful entrance hall. It’s not the first time I’ve just walked in off the street with a model, […]
I started shooting a portrait project this morning to document the hardy bunch of sea swimmers on the Isle of Man. Every Sunday of the year, no matter what the weather is doing, they meet-up and they swim. Some wear wetsuits, others don’t. This morning was cold, much colder than it has been – the air temperature was about 8 or 9 degrees, the sea was warmer, a balmy 11 degrees… I do quite a bit of sea swimming myself, […]

I’m having a bit of downtime at the moment, enjoying the quiet period that is normal at this time of year. So I’m seizing the opportunity to shoot a lot of portfolio work. This week I photographed the very beautiful, Kate Teare. Kate went into makeup at 9am, was out by 10am and we were finished shooting by 11.45am – that’s what I like, no hanging around! Charlotte Easton did an amazing job with the makeup, as expected, and this […]
I’m currently sitting-out a 24 hour Facebook ban for allegedly posting a ‘sexually explicit image’ (above). Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t see any genitals, or fully exposed buttocks or breasts? And there certainly isn’t any verbal descriptions of sexual acts? Sexual activity? Not with an ice lolly. No. All of the images in this article have been reported at one time through my Facebook page, some were removed, like the one above, others weren’t. I think […]

I love this time of year – summer is long gone, but you can still buy ice lollies in the local petrol station…that’s actually just a bonus, what I really love is the light, the sun never gets too bright or too high above the horizon. One down side with ‘Late Autumn’ is that a lot of people think it’s okay to start putting up their Christmas decorations. It’s the middle of November, it’s not okay.

Whenever I’m working with make-up artists, no matter what the model looks like, I always say the same thing when they ask my what look I want – “Keep it natural” is my stock answer. I’m not a fan of overly made-up women in everyday life, so I tend to prefer, given the choice, natural looking when I’m photographing them. If I’m photographing a beautiful woman on a windswept beach on the Isle of Man I don’t want her looking […]

“Hop-Tu-Naa, your mother’s gone away and she won’t be back until the morning…” – Hop-Tu-Naa, that’s our Halloween night here on the Isle of Man….so, here’s some blood.

One of the things I love about portrait photography is the way people can look completely different in every photograph I take. There are so many variables that affect the final image – the sitters mood, my mood, how well we know each other, light, temperature…the list is endless. These portraits were made days apart, weeks apart, there’s a couple with a few years gap. One thing I noticed, straight away, when selecting these images is how the look of […]

This is Maurice Buchleitner, 6’5″, works in insurance, should be a male model…when he is, you saw him here first. We organised this shoot last week whilst at a party, Maurice had agreed to get naked, but I wasn’t sure how much of that confidence was alcohol based? When I picked him up from his flat six days later, Maurice was totally sober and still keen to get naked. This won’t be the last time I’ll shoot him, so for this […]
