The things i saw (south africa) #2

April 4, 2018 by Phil Kneen Photography

At the moment, I’m sorting through about 100 ‘final’ images, mostly portraits, whittled down from 400 photographs I made for the photo-essay ‘Plakkerskamp’. I’m itching to share more, but I can’t, at the moment. So here’s another entry from my visual notebook. I’ve also included an entry from my journal which I wrote on the evening of my first visit to the white squatters camp at Krugersdorp, situated about 20km northwest of Johannesburg. ‘Munsieville Camp, Krugersdorp – We sat outside […]

Three’s company.

April 25, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

A few people have asked me about the cost of travelling, but more specifically, road-tripping, so I thought I’d share the financial breakdown of the last trip I did to Scandinavia. The costs here are based on three people sharing, so with a bigger camper van you could split it 4, 5, even 6 ways or more, depending on how big your vehicle is. In 12 days we did a lot of driving, 6000 miles worth, so fuel costs are […]

The things I saw (Tokyo) #2

April 23, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

More visual meanderings and photographic sketches from a recent trip to Japan… Me and Jess both tried to sleep on our first night in Tokyo, but the 9 hour time difference was telling our brains it was the middle of the day, not 4am… so we got up, got dressed, left our hotel at 5am and headed to Kawasaki train station. By 6am the station was already quite busy, but for our first 20 minute commute into Tokyo we managed […]

Oz

October 23, 2015 by Phil Kneen Photography

When things turn to shit, there really is no place like home. After a string of pitfalls toward the end of the first month of my European road trip, I’ve decided to return to my home on the Isle of Man, just for a couple of weeks, to level-out. I feel like a kids jigsaw that’s been put together, but with all the pieces in the wrong place. I need to reassemble that jigsaw! Contrary to what a lot of […]

Road Trip ’14

October 15, 2013 by Phil Kneen Photography

This week I’ve started planning my next big adventure, a road-trip of epic proportions – The Isle of Man to Moscow and back – a 4000 mile round trip. I’ve been all over the world, but never this part of the world, and what better way to see it? This probably isn’t a lot of people’s idea of fun, but I can’t think of anything better; load a vehicle with supplies and just drive, stopping off whenever and wherever you […]
