The things I saw #5

October 27, 2015 by Phil Kneen Photography

More random visual meanderings and scribbles with the pen and the camera. All images made using an Olympus MjuII 35mm compact and Kodak Portra 160 film. Something I do know – free internet is very common in Spain. Rare in the UK. ‘Monday 19th October, Morecambe, Lancashire – I went to the Steam Packet ferry office at Heysham to see if I could get on an earlier sailing home. I told myself that if it was going to cost less […]

Joanne

February 27, 2015 by Phil Kneen Photography

It really pains me that I can’t share these images of the stunningly beautiful, Joanne, on the social media platform that is Facebook, because the merest glimpse of a nipple can send some people scrambling for their ‘report’ tab faster than they get to church every Sunday. So here they are. The top image was shot on film using an old Pentax SP1000, which I now realise has a light leak, but I think it adds to the look? The […]

36x24mm

February 8, 2015 by Phil Kneen Photography

My latest return to shooting film is lasting a bit longer than expected, I normally shoot a few rolls then slip back into the sterile convenience of digital, but not this time! I always have a film compact in my camera bag, either an Olympus MjuII (which all the images here were made with) or a treasured Minolta Hi-Matic that a good friend bought for me last autumn. One unpleasant thing I have noticed is that the price of film […]

Never work with animals or children…

August 21, 2014 by Phil Kneen Photography

I’ve realised that I am actually a little bit scared of snakes. I’ve also accepted that photographing a snake and a beautiful naked lady, without it looking totally corny and cliché, is actually quite difficult. They say you should never work with animals or children, well this week I’m working with all of them – kids, horses, dogs and a 7 foot albino python. Also this week I’ve photographed musician, Helen Morrison, who was on the Island for a mysterious […]

Lee

July 16, 2014 by Phil Kneen Photography

My good friend, Lee, has been plucking-up the courage to get naked in front of my camera for a long time now, but he does it so well. I take portraits that I hope will make people feel good about themselves, there doesn’t seem any point otherwise? I’ve recently found myself having to defend the content of my photographs, which irritates me a bit, they’re portraits, nothing more, there’s no hidden meanings. I see these type of shots as visual […]

Ciara

May 10, 2014 by Phil Kneen Photography

I published the photograph, above, yesterday at 2pm on my Facebook photography page, by 2.25pm somebody had reported it as being ‘offensive’. It utterly amazes me what that you can post on Facebook images of dogs being boiled alive, drug taking and war violence, and nobody bats an eyelid, but post a perfectly tasteful portrait of a beautiful woman with a bit of nipple on show and you get crucified? Bizarre. Anyway, here she is, the very beautiful, Ciara.

The fine line.

April 2, 2014 by Phil Kneen Photography

A lot of people say to me, “Oh, it’s a fine line between artistic and pornographic photography”, and I suppose that’s right, if you’re a bit narrow-minded. I’m a portrait photographer, I photograph people, and sometimes I photograph people without their clothes on…and that’s pretty much all I have to say on the subject.

Water World

July 31, 2013 by Phil Kneen Photography

I live on an island, the Isle of Man, perched in the middle of the Irish Sea. If there’s something we have a lot of here, it’s water; it falls from the sky, regularly, and we’re surrounded by it, I’m never more than a 20 minute drive away from the sea. I’ve always loved water, I learned to swim when I was 18 months old and since than I’ve spent most of my life in it, underneath it and on […]

Bought as seen…

July 24, 2013 by Phil Kneen Photography

I’ve been shooting with an old Leica R6 slr film camera for the last few weeks, it’s a camera I always drooled over and dreamed of owning, years ago, but could never afford. I picked the R6 up, along with the standard, and razor-sharp 50mm Summicron, for the price of a mid-range digital compact. I’m starting to realise why I got it so cheap – it has a bit of a light leak and the metering is as about as […]
