Roseena

October 1, 2019 by Phil Kneen Photography

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a fantastic model from the west coast of Ireland, Roseena McNair, who was visiting the Isle of Man for a couple of days. Roseena has a beautiful natural look and wore no makeup at all. I’ve done no skin retouching, whatsoever. I see the work of photographers whose models have the appearance of having been dipped in wax; they have a kind of Madame Tussaud’s look to them. When confronted, they’ll insist that […]

Jessica

August 29, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

In the 15 years since Jessica was born, I must have taken thousands of photographs of her; she’s now at the point where, most of the time, she doesn’t know, or care, that I’m taking her picture. When my daughter is aware, I’m photographing her, such as here, she has the most amazing sultry, ‘resting bitch face’ look; she can even raise one eyebrow when provoked, just like her Mum. This shoot was actually ‘commissioned’ by Jessica herself. Makeup and […]

Hannah

June 2, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

I made these photographs with the very beautiful Hannah less than three weeks ago, yet for some reason it seems likes months ago? I did the whole shoot on film, which can cause ‘issues’ because it’s quite ‘revealing’, showing-up every flaw and imperfection – fortunately, Hannah doesn’t appear to have any flaws or imperfections, probably down to her regular pole-dancing and healthy eating (according to her Instagram account) All images were made using a Nikon F100 and 50mm 1.4G (1,3,5,6) […]

In an Instant

February 14, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

Anyone who follows my blog regularly will know that I’m a huge fan of the acute gratification derived from instant film, whatever its form. I like Impossible Project’s reincarnation of Polaroid, but it’s expensive for what it is: troublesome and unpredictable. I do like the slight element of surprise inherent in any type of analogue film, but the least I expect is a vaguely well exposed image from most lighting conditions – and this isn’t always the case when shooting […]

Fish & Chips

February 7, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

Photographer, musician, sculptor, writer, architect… if you create anything, you will have your champions and you will have your detractors – the people who applaud when you succeed, and the people who applaud when you fail. Whatever it is you conceive and produce, someone will always cast negativity all over it. I’m not talking about constructive criticism here, or even indifference – I’m referring to the people who, no matter how technically and aesthetically perfect you think your concept and […]

Sophia Russell

March 25, 2015 by Phil Kneen Photography

I’ve been working again with the stunningly beautiful, 18 year-old, Sophia Russell. For this shoot we used an old American pick-up truck that was loaned to us by the owner after being spotted by my friend, Ciara. Sophia is an amazing model, not only does she look great, but she’s also professional and needs very little or no direction; this, I believe, makes for more natural looking images. For the technically minded, all the images here were made using the […]

Get flash.

December 5, 2014 by Phil Kneen Photography

I don’t know what I was thinking? Organising an outdoor shoot, in December, late in the afternoon? When I arranged this a few weeks ago I’d completely forgotten to take into account the fact that it’s dark by 4pm. My model, the stunningly beautiful Emma Haren, didn’t go into makeup until 2pm! By 3pm I was starting to panic a bit… “Okay, we’ve got about thirty minutes of available daylight left…let’s go!” – I used that half an hour of daylight as economically […]

Serendipity…

December 2, 2014 by Phil Kneen Photography

I have to confess that this image was the result of almost complete fluke. I was doing a shoot with the beautiful Fudge Plaatjies, mostly shooting digital, but toward the end of the session I thought I’d get a few frames on film, so out came my favourite 35mm camera – the Minolta Hi-Matic GF…which it turns-out, and not for the first time, I hadn’t loaded properly. Toward the end of the roll the film jammed, but I carried-on trying […]

Charlotte Bawden

December 1, 2014 by Phil Kneen Photography

I first spotted Charlotte about three weeks ago, she was working behind a bar I was in, celebrating my friend’s birthday. I don’t generally approach potential models myself, my PA Ciara does that normally, I’m actually quite shy when it comes to asking people to pose! So, I didn’t ask her and kicked myself for a week…then I got a message off Charlotte, saying that she’d love to model for me, if I needed anyone. Everybody happy! 18 year-old Charlotte […]

Fudge Plaatjies

November 26, 2014 by Phil Kneen Photography

I had a great shoot this afternoon with model, Fudge Plaatjies. Undeniably stunning. The idea of today was to just meet Fudge and get a few test shots and see how she is in front of the camera. Well, she’s fantastic in front of the camera. Obviously. Thank you to The Regency Hotel in Douglas, Isle of Man, for letting us use their beautiful entrance hall. It’s not the first time I’ve just walked in off the street with a model, […]
