Nörthern Exposure

April 18, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

Monday 16th April – I really should start making notes in between posting blog articles – I’ll normally be in bed, or driving through the night when I think of something interesting or amusing to write about… but by the time it comes to actually writing something, like now, I’ve forgotten everything and I end-up posting something half-arsed. Like now… I actually forgot what day it was this morning, I had to check my phone to see if it was […]

Å to B

April 15, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

We’ve only been in Norway since the early hours of Wednesday morning, but it feels like we’ve been here weeks. This may have something to do with the three-day, 2200 mile drive, stopping only for coffee, toilet breaks and to have a snapped exhaust fixed somewhere just outside Hamburg, Germany. The great thing about travelling in a camper van with an extra driver is that you can alternate driving and sleeping without ever having to stop anywhere for too long. […]

Tokyo holiday snaps

April 9, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

I’ve been in Tokyo for the last two weeks, which is why my blog has been quiet. I shot a lot of film while I was there, mostly on my little Olympus MjuII compact – I did take my Nikon F100 and a couple of lenses, and a Fuji X100T digital compact, but after a couple of days hauling even a relatively small bag around I admitted defeat and left the hotel every morning with just the compact and my […]

Limbo

January 1, 2016 by Phil Kneen Photography

‘The Jungle, Calais, Christmas Day – These two men are Bedouin Arabs from Kuwait – they described themselves as ‘no paper’. This basically means that in the country of their birth they are born with no documentation whatsoever, which means they have no right to healthcare, education or welfare of any kind. The guy on the right earned a living in Kuwait by selling fruit ‘illegally’, he spent most of his days being moved-on by the police. The other man […]

Happy Christmas from The Jungle!

December 24, 2015 by Phil Kneen Photography

This is a very quick post from Calais to say Happy Christmas! Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to stop-by, it’s very much appreciated. I’m going to be in The Jungle tomorrow (Christmas Day), sharing the day with people from all over the world – some celebrate Christmas, others don’t, but I’m sure it’s going to be great fun! I’ve been photographing in the camp for over a week now and have been shown nothing but kindness (forgetting one […]

The Jungle

November 4, 2015 by Phil Kneen Photography

Wednesday 4th November. The Jungle, Calais, France – I’ve been working in this somewhat unimaginatively named refugee camp for two days now. All the images here have been shot on my iPhone. I’m shooting the project on film, mostly medium format, and a Fuji Instax instant camera (this camera has acted as an excellent ‘ice-breaker’) I really don’t know where to begin describing the situation in The Jungle, to be honest… it’s not what I expected – I’d visualised hundreds […]
