AMSTERDA…

May 16, 2019 by Phil Kneen Photography

Every Easyjet short haul from John Lennon to Schipol is invariably the same – loud and unruly. On our flight, the stewardess stopped the safety demonstration halfway through because everyone was talking and announced that the cabin crew would not continue until there was complete silence…so, a bit like being on a school trip, except not obeying orders on this outing gets you added to the International ‘No Fly’ list. There’s always a collective excitement on the flight to Holland […]

The things I saw #5

October 27, 2015 by Phil Kneen Photography

More random visual meanderings and scribbles with the pen and the camera. All images made using an Olympus MjuII 35mm compact and Kodak Portra 160 film. Something I do know – free internet is very common in Spain. Rare in the UK. ‘Monday 19th October, Morecambe, Lancashire – I went to the Steam Packet ferry office at Heysham to see if I could get on an earlier sailing home. I told myself that if it was going to cost less […]

Coming Up For Air…

December 5, 2013 by Phil Kneen Photography

Manx music legend, Davy Knowles, is back on the Isle of Man and I had the pleasure of spending the day with him, shooting portraits around various locations. Davy, who now lives and works out of Chicago, is back on home soil to perform a gig at The Gaiety Theatre in Douglas. (Try and get tickets, but I think they sold-out pretty fast!) I’ve photographed Davy a few times over the last few years, the first time was at the […]

Scar Tissue

May 9, 2013 by Phil Kneen Photography

This week I’ve finally started a project that I’ve been meaning to do for years, it’s an issue that’s always fascinated me – scars. I posted an update on my Facebook page asking for people with scars and a story to go with them. I was expecting to get maybe 15 or 20 people – at the time of writing this I’ve got 159 volunteers! Some of the scars are accidental, some are medical. One lady has asked me to photograph […]

Sad times in Amsterdam

December 26, 2011 by Phil Kneen Photography

At the end of October 2010 I went to Amsterdam to photograph Davy Knowles playing in front of 6,000 people in the Heineken Arena. It was a very difficult time for me as my brother had died two weeks before and I was leaving Holland 48 hours after the gig to attend his funeral in Birmingham. The day after the gig, me, Davy and the tour manager, Lenny, travelled by train to The Hague to stay with Lenny’s sister and family. […]
