The things I saw (Tokyo) #9

1I remember, years ago, falling asleep on the sofa whilst listening to a Travis CD, ‘The Man who’. I must have gone-off around about the end of ‘She’s so strange’, what followed seemed to be an eternity of silence, then the secret track kicked in – well I nearly soiled my pants – I’d listened to this CD dozens of times and had no idea there was a secret track. I never listened to it again after that, I was too terrified.

Well this article is like a secret track… more like a secret album, actually, because I thought there were no more film shots from Tokyo, then more arrived today at the end of rolls. But you don’t have to be terrified…

All images were made using an Olympus MjuII and a Nikon F100 with 50mm 1.4G and 28mm 1.8G. Film is Kodak Portra 160 and Fuji Pro 400H… you’ll have to guess, because I’m not sure which is which, at the moment. Developed and scanned at UK Film Lab

A sink? A kitchen sink??!! You take a photo of a kitchen sink, the most boring thing in the world, and it still looks interesting and amazing?! You truly are touched by genius, Mr Kneen.

  2. That 18th ? shot of the urban sprawl is both amazing and terrifying – I’d hate to live in such closed spaces. Makes me thankful for all the parks and gardens we have in Melbourne.

I love the blue/teal (or cool) tone to your images. I naturally assume it’s the film and processing.

Thanks for sharing your snapshots and memories of your trip too – I’ve enjoyed seeing every bit of that city culture through your eyes.

  3. I asked the “Google god” and listened to “Blue Flashing Light”😉 while reading your post. Great song, great pics. Your song story reminds me when I discovered that there is a hidden arabic style song on the offspring album smash what is one of the first cds I bought when I was young. Greets Peter
